Hailed as a distinguished performer, violin and violist Will Haapaniemi has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra since 2014.
Will is an experienced soloist and chamber musician, having performed concerti with orchestras in Detroit, Memphis, Miami, Los Angeles, and New York City. A review in the South Florida Classical Review described Will as “displaying a musical intelligence… playfulness and occasional brutality.” Will has won awards in many competitions, including the Lennox International Young Artists Competition, the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition, and the Five Towns Competition.
A lover of chamber music, Will performs regularly with his multi-modal ensemble: Variation -7 alongside his DSO colleagues, cellist Jeremy Crosmer, and violinist/wife Hae Jeong Han.
Outside of music you can find Will rock climbing or hiking all around the country, or flying general aviation planes.
