Detroit has become a favorite destination for members of the Ehnes Quartet, and the feeling is mutual! Of the quartet’s rendition of Bartok’s Quartet No. 3, Strad Magazine cited its “…captivating purpose: beautiful, ferocious, delicate, propelled by dynamic energy and with the spirit of dance bubbling underneath. This long, complex paragraph was played with unfailing eloquence and, need it be said, technical brilliance.” Prepare to be spellbound, as our friends James Ehnes, Amy Schwartz Moretti, Richard O’Neill and Edward Arron take the stage in an exciting program of quartets by Haydn (Op. 20, No. 5), Bartok (No. 2) and Beethoven (Rasumovsky, Op. 59, No. 3). Arrive early for a complimentary wine and cheese reception (advance registration by phone: 586-944-5353).

The Berlin Philharmonic horn section has a new leader, Michigan superstar David Cooper! Joining him will be his longtime colleague, none other than the former Concertmaster of the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam and Indiana University Professor of Violin, Alex Kerr. With CSD pianist Pauline Martin, they will perform the freshly composed Horn Trio by Jonathan Leshnoff (hailed as “a leader in contemporary lyricism” by the New York Times), Franz Strauss’ Horn Fantasy on Schubert’s Sehnsuchtswaltzer, Debussy’s Violin Sonata and the crown jewel for horn trio, Trio in E flat by Johannes Brahms. Enjoy complimentary refreshments and conversation with the artists at our signature “Just Between Us” Talk Back following the concert.
